Discipline(s): Performing Arts, including choreography, dance, music composition, directing (film & theatre), and storytelling; Visual Arts; Media Arts; Writing, including screenwriting and playwriting; and Scholarship (art conversation, art education, art history, criticism, environmentalism/conversation)

 

Eligibility: Artists of all levels are encouraged to apply; however, artists pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees may not apply while enrolled in degree-granting programs. Former Artists in Residence must wait five years to re-apply.

 

Session: March – November; 4-10 week sessions, 35 artists a year

 

Description: Situated in a campus of artist-renovated military buildings in the Marin Headlands, just minutes north of San Francisco, Headlands Center for the Arts hosts an internationally recognized Artist in Residence Program, interdisciplinary public programs, and subsidized studio rentals for Bay Area artists of all disciplines. Through these programs, Headlands offers opportunities for artist research, dialogue, and exchange that build understanding and appreciation for the role of art in society.
