Barry Cole and his company, Spot Music (est. 2001), stand at the threshold of where media meets media and technology. Spot Music is an independent consultation and music supervision firm with more than 80 credits (Film.TV, New Media), including The New Edition Story, Mind Of A Chef, The Daily Show, Sling Blade, American Psycho, Super Troopers, Talk To Me, Belly, Brown Sugar, Our Family Wedding, Roll Bounce, Beautyshop and Notorious. In addition to music supervision for films, Cole has a proven track record in Media Production, Soundtrack A&R, Music Publishing and Music Clearance. Cole Produced the soundtrack for the film “Brown Sugar” from which the single “Love Of My Life” performed by Erykah Badu and Common won the Grammy for R&B Single Of The Year.
Barry Cole’s exceptional talent and artistry as a Music Supervisor caught the attention of Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records. In 2004, Blackwell tapped Cole to manage his publishing catalog of over 15,000 songs including the catalogs of such luminaries as Bob Marley. In 2013 Cole and Blackwell were Grammy nominees for their work on the documentary “Marley” in the category of Best Compilation for Visual Media.
Cole is Co-Producer of the documentary “Alive Inside” which won the coveted audience award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The film explores the strong link that is made between music and memory.
He was recently featured on the Forbes.com blog discussing his new digital publishing company, Dub Fiction (dubfiction.com) as one of the many new ways to engage audiences while using technology to reimagine how music is packaged and presented. Dub Fiction is a Transmedia company that creates new media narrative experiences mixing Graphics, Video, Music, Augmented Reality across multiple platforms. Cole has been invited to present at multiple Augmented Reality and Technology events including ARNY (Augmented Realty NY) and AWE (The Augmented Reality World Expo).
Cole’s commitment to bridging the gaps between technology and the arts continues to yield fruitful results. Cole has pioneered a method that he calls “augmation” that brings public art, murals and graffiti to life through the use of smartphones. Cole is a recipient, alongside Director Shawn Peters, for the 2015 Creative Capital Grant to Produce “Augmations” for the project “The Art Of Dying Young, The Memorial Mural Project”.
In November of 2014, Cole launched multisfalcon.com, the first online marketplace to deliver high-quality audio multitracks and stems for sale to the Production Audio and Pro Audio markets.
Cole consults globally and maintains SPOT Music to provide music supervision, publishing, and transmedia production services to the entertainment industry. Current clients include Amazon Studios, Disney Interactive, Dubspot.com, Bob Marley Music and Artist Tracy168.
