Program: Artist in Residence (AIR); Space Grant Program

 

Disciplines: Theater, Dance and Performance; Choreographers, Playwrights and Multi-disciplinary

 

Eligibility: Applications are available to New York City residents only and are generally available in mid-late March; Artists who have received previous space grants must wait three years before reapplying.

 

Session: AIR program is 1-2 years; Space Grants are offered for 40, 50, or 85-hour work periods followed by performances. See website for specific details.

 

Description: For the AIR program seven resident artists have the use of four spaces suitable for theater, dance and performance work and are offered up to 200 hours of free rehearsal space, a stipend, formal presentations of new works and works in progress and administrative and technical support. Opportunities are also available to curate, teach in the public schools, and to work with BAX’s student population. Also offers two research fellowships for artists that do not have an immediate performance
component. For the Space Grant Program recipients are awarded 70 hours of free space in one of BAX’s four spaces, split into two distinct work periods. Group One rehearses during the Summer months and performs the work they are developing elsewhere. Group Two rehearses during the Fall months and performs their work as part of BAX’s current performance season. Applicants must decide which grant period is most appropriate for their needs before applying.
