New York Grant Guidelines

We appreciate your interest in Wells Fargo’s philanthropic goals and objectives. At Wells Fargo, we believe that grant-making decisions are more effective when made locally. That’s why Wells Fargo is actively involved in the communities where we live and work, and why our team members are leaders in helping our communities succeed.

In the Greater New York and Southern New York regions, Wells Fargo makes contributions in philanthropic focus areas that we believe are important to communities’ vitality and success. We support programs and organizations that serve low-and-moderate-income individuals and we prioritize organizations that intentionally promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We direct our contributions to non-profit organizations that work to advance these areas:

Primary Focus Areas

Education

  • Addressing the pre-K – 12th grade achievement gap through interventions that occur in partnership with the students’ school and with a focus on low- and moderate-income students.
  • Out of School Time programs that provide academic enrichment using proven and scalable methods in the areas of STEAM, leadership development, career and college readiness and preventing summer learning loss.
  • Programs that support post-secondary education.

NOTE: Organizations whose primary mission is arts or culture (including but not limited to museums and theatres) should apply under the Arts & Culture focus area even if the proposed program is educational.

Community Development

  • Aiding the path to employment with workforce training and job-readiness skills, particularly those that support returning citizens, veterans and programs that offer stackable credentials. This may include programs provided by community colleges that are geared towards obtaining employment in a particular vocation that has been identified as a local area of opportunity.
  • Promoting, creating and preserving affordable rental housing and pathways to home ownership.
  • Programs that provide technical support and access to capital for diverse and underserved entrepreneurs and small businesses.
  • Programs that facilitate financial literacy and financial empowerment.
  • While asset building and financial education are important to Wells Fargo, we will not fund the cost of developing curriculum or supplies for financial literacy programs. Please visit www.handsonbanking.org to access our free resources.

Secondary Focus Areas

Human Services

  • Addressing critical needs such as hunger and homelessness. This includes support of regional food banks and short-term transitional housing.
  • Comprehensive case management to bridge individuals and families with services that address critical needs. Support may include prevention and response to abuse or other issues affecting family stability.

NOTE: Health and disease-related programs are not a philanthropic focus, including requests for walks and runs.

Arts & Culture

  • Supporting art, culture, science, and history organizations that advance education through school partnerships or outreach programs. For example, professional development for teachers who integrate arts in the classroom and out of school enrichment programs for low-income students.
  • Facilitating access to cultural experiences and artistic opportunities that reflect the community’s diversity.

Environment

  • Preserving our environment through educational programs that expose k-12 students to sustainability issues, green practices, and conserving our natural resources.
