Childish Gambino :: The Art of Score :: Matthew Garrison

"The life of the arts, far from being an interruption, a distraction, in the life of a nation, is very close to the center of a nation’s purpose—and is a test of the quality of a nation’s civilization.”

MusicMakers News: Week of May 14th, 2018

Story, Revenue, and Balance: What do Childish Gambino, The Art of Score, and Matthew Garrison have to do with your career?  This week we're looking again at Story, Revenue, and Balance.  These are three main tenants of MusicMakers and creating a successful career in music.

When you are performing, people are attracted to you. When you play, you resonate in a way that people respond to. But why is that?  Your story is part of what causes that resonance. It’s what got you here; what brought you to this place. It’s what inspires your music and helps you connect with your audience.  It’s also the beginning of your Brand!

BBC describes Childish Gambino’s “This is America” as a powerful and poignant allegorical portrait of 21st Century America, which warrants a place among the canonical depictions of the USA from Grant Wood's American Gothic to Edward Hopper's Nighthawks, from Emanuel Leutze's Washington Crossing the Delaware to America the Beautiful by Norman Lewis.”

How’s this look for you? How are you interested in sharing about yourself in ways that inspire?

Recently, British Airways LOST Matthew Garrison's $12,000 custom made Fodera Mini MG after insisting he check it and pay for it to be checked. It is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE that any professional musician should have to undergo such INCOMPETENCE.   2 days and 2 gigs later, the airline was able to get the bass to Matt.

For US travelers, this FAA Regulation protects us.  But what about International protection?  Please read Matt’s latest post. It’s very important for us to understand and to take a stand to make sure that our rights (and instruments) are protected.
