Omi International Art Center

Disciplines: Musicians, Dance Collective

Eligibility: Emerging to Professional.

Session: 2 weeks (music) 3 weeks (Dance)

Description: Every summer, Music Omi invites approximately a dozen musicians — composers and performers from around the globe — to come together for two and a half weeks in a unique collaborative music making residency program. Music Omi encourages its participants to share ideas; perform each other’s works and write music for one another while exploring their own musical vision; and broaden their artistic and cultural horizons. A singular feature of the Music Omi experience is the presentation of public performances during and at the conclusion of the residency, sharing some of their collaborative work with the public. Everyone accepted to Music Omi receives lodging, including a private room, and delicious meals during his or her stay, but accepted fellows must secure their own travel funds. All awarded fellows commit to remaining for the entire residency. Professional Dancers/Choreographers of ALL styles (Modern, Ballet, Improvisation, Ethnic Dance forms, etc.) who have the desire to share ideas and process with dancers from around the world are encouraged to apply. It is recommended that applicants do not have specific projects in mind, but come open to working with others on jointly conceived projects. It is imperative that all applicants have a genuine openness to collaborating with artists of different dance backgrounds. All awarded fellows commit to remaining for the entire residency and to participating in the concluding showings. Everyone accepted to Dance Omi receives full room and board during his or her stay at Omi (note that Omi is unable to provide travel funds).
